The m•doc™ story

Oxidised cellulose is the output of taking raw (non-homogeneous and fibrous)
cotton pulp through a specialist oxidation process to convert it into powder format.

Oxidised cellulose is a proven and effective haemostat that works to aid blood clotting. Oxidised cellulose products have been available since the 50’s and has appeared in different products such as, Surgicel, Oxycel and Gelfoam.

Hemcon’s Intellectual Property revolves around a suite of patents called PAGA (being salts of Polyanhydroglucuronic acid). The patents are based on a novel hydrolysis process of converting the oxidised cellulose into uniform micron size particles, as well as combining other polymers to the base ion.

m•doc™ is the trade name given to the first commercialised powder from this technology. The name m•doc™ is based on - Micro Dispersed Oxidised Cellulose, and m•doc™ is the sodium and calcium derivative of the PAGA salts.
